In reply to <a href="https://teachingwithtiff.com/2016/09/alphabet-intervention-that-works.html#comment-370">Janet</a>.

Hi Janet,

Richard Allington is a top educational researcher who has served as the president of the IRA and many other organizations in our field. This intervention actually comes from Jan Richardson. I agree that this does not make up the most thrilling 5 minutes of a child's day, but it is just that-- 5 minutes, tops. I am not advocating doing this activity in place of purposeful play, hands-on teaching activities, singing and dancing, or any of the things we kindergarten teachers do to make learning fun for our students. This is made to be a quick and effective intervention for those who need extra repetition. I feel that it's a small ask that reaps a huge reward! I hope this helps. Tiffany

Who is Richard Allington? Sounds to me like he is part of the misconception of what early childhood education should be. How boring for kids to do this everyday.

Good question! Letter name only. We do a chant in the morning at a different time where we say the sounds also and we sing a lot of letter sound songs and we are always referring to the abc chart when we write. But this is just for letter recognition. :)
